🇺🇸✈️ Can you imagine how different your life would be if you had grown up in something like this? You'd automatically be the coolest kid on the block. 🇨🇳 🇺🇸 The idea that China would overtake the US economy died back in 2008... most people just never noticed. Monetary analyst Jeffrey Snider says the mainstream is roughly 15 years late, because the property collapse, the growth plateau and a factory model that hit its ceiling were all sitting in plain sight: “The idea that China was going to overtake the US died in 2008.” Anyone still bracing for a Chinese takeover is planning around an economy that stopped growing into that role a long time ago. @JeffSnider_EDU

🔥🇺🇸 He may not have been the best American President, but damn, I hate to admit it, but Obama might have the quote of the year with this one: “There’s gold everywhere… what’s up with the gold?! He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened up a Cheesecake Factory!” He’s not wrong about all the gold… It’s becoming excessive. Writer: Jamie t.co/aYnikgRfvm

🚨🇺🇸 Gunfire erupts outside a Florida A&M homecoming party, with multiple people reportedly shot near the football stadium Shots rang out around 9:45 Saturday night on Perry Street near Bragg Memorial Stadium, and police still haven't said how many were hit or how badly. 🇺🇸🇫🇷 Tim Dillon: “France has this great history of protest, and young people were like, ‘hey, we gotta do something here!’ Then I think some other groups joined in. It could have been some of the younger migrant types, and some of the left-wing anarchists jump in.” He’s right! 🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran's chief negotiator cancels his trip to New Delhi before the BRICS forum opens Monday... citing "unforeseen circumstances" Ghalibaf is the speaker of parliament and the man who leads Iran’s talks with Washington. If anyone in Tehran had a good reason to be abroad this week, it was him. The forum runs Oct. 26-27 and Iran is sending a delegation without him. Nobody has explained why. Tehran expects to be bombed. The supreme leader hasn’t been seen in public since the strike that killed his father in February. So the simplest reading is that Iran’s leadership is staying put and out of sight until it knows what Washington is going to do. Source: Al Jazeera / Writer: Daniel

🇺🇸 🇮🇷 Even hawks like Rubio may now see the Iran war as a mistake... and no one around the president wants to be the one to say it. Professor David Gibbs says the people closest to this war are scared of what comes next, which leaves the White House in a place where bad calls go unchallenged: "It's just a very toxic environment that makes it very vulnerable to miscalculations." Wars rarely end well when the people who know better keep their mouths shut.

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇷 Trump says America is making “hundreds of billions of dollars” off the war in the Middle East... with gas over $4 and 70% of voters saying they’re WORSE off than last year To be fair... there’s real money behind it, since America is now the world’s top oil and gas producer and every spike sends export cash to Texas and the Gulf Coast. The problem is that money ends up with PRODUCERS, while Americans are paying more for basically everything and the Pentagon has already burned through more than $45 billion on the war. Ten days out, voters are going to vote with their wallets, and “the country is making money” is a tough sell to the guy chewing his fingernails watching the meter as he fills his truck, or the mom wincing at the register over her groceries. 🇪🇸 She only took enough coffee from Starbucks to get her through until all this unrest in Spain passes. She'll totally go back and pay for it once they reopen after the repairs. I’m fairly sure she will, maybe… Writer: Jamie t.co/BzvOs3Ch0W

🇮🇱 🇮🇷 One regional commander firing by mistake could set off a chain reaction that ends with nuclear weapons in the Middle East. Professor David Gibbs walks through how fast the dominoes fall once that first shot goes out, and the worst case starts with Israel reaching for tactical nukes: "If Israel were to launch even tactical nuclear weapons, that would be Iran's response. And that would be a terrible, horrific event." The only exit left is a deal both sides can live with, even if neither gets to call it a win.

🇺🇸 🇮🇷 Trump ran as the president who wouldn't start new wars... and now the debate is over why he's steering toward one with Iran. Professor David Gibbs says none of the usual explanations for the turn hold up, especially for a man who kept that promise through his entire first term: "It is a fact that he did run as a peace president. He ran for president as somebody would be a man of peace. He would not start any new wars." With the midterms days away, the voters who backed that promise will be watching every move he makes next.

🇺🇸 🇮🇷 The US buildup around Iran may be a bluff... and a bluff Tehran takes seriously could start the war anyway. Joe Kent warns the bigger risk is Iran reading the ship movements and jet runs as the real thing and deciding to fire first: “That’s why, again, we’re playing with fire.” With every sign pointing to war before November 3, one bad read in Tehran is all it takes. @joekent16jan19
