🇺🇸🇫🇷 Tim Dillon: “France has this great history of protest, and young people were like, ‘hey, we gotta do something here!’ Then I think some other groups joined in. It could have been some of the younger migrant types, and some of the left-wing anarchists jump in.” He’s right! These marches always start out with the best of intentions but ultimately attract the worst of the worst opportunists. Source: TimDillonShow (YT) / Writer: Jamie

🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran's chief negotiator cancels his trip to New Delhi before the BRICS forum opens Monday... citing "unforeseen circumstances" Ghalibaf is the speaker of parliament and the man who leads Iran’s talks with Washington. If anyone in Tehran had a good reason to be abroad this week, it was him. The forum runs Oct. 26-27 and Iran is sending a delegation without him. Nobody has explained why. Tehran expects to be bombed. The supreme leader hasn’t been seen in public since the strike that killed his father in February. So the simplest reading is that Iran’s leadership is staying put and out of sight until it knows what Washington is going to do. Source: Al Jazeera / Writer: Daniel

🇺🇸 🇮🇷 Even hawks like Rubio may now see the Iran war as a mistake... and no one around the president wants to be the one to say it. Professor David Gibbs says the people closest to this war are scared of what comes next, which leaves the White House in a place where bad calls go unchallenged: "It's just a very toxic environment that makes it very vulnerable to miscalculations." Wars rarely end well when the people who know better keep their mouths shut.

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇷 Trump says America is making “hundreds of billions of dollars” off the war in the Middle East... with gas over $4 and 70% of voters saying they’re WORSE off than last year To be fair... there’s real money behind it, since America is now the world’s top oil and gas producer and every spike sends export cash to Texas and the Gulf Coast. The problem is that money ends up with PRODUCERS, while Americans are paying more for basically everything and the Pentagon has already burned through more than $45 billion on the war. Ten days out, voters are going to vote with their wallets, and “the country is making money” is a tough sell to the guy chewing his fingernails watching the meter as he fills his truck, or the mom wincing at the register over her groceries. 🇮🇱 🇮🇷 One regional commander firing by mistake could set off a chain reaction that ends with nuclear weapons in the Middle East. Professor David Gibbs walks through how fast the dominoes fall once that first shot goes out, and the worst case starts with Israel reaching for tactical nukes: "If Israel were to launch even tactical nuclear weapons, that would be Iran's response. And that would be a terrible, horrific event." The only exit left is a deal both sides can live with, even if neither gets to call it a win.

🇺🇸 🇮🇷 Trump ran as the president who wouldn't start new wars... and now the debate is over why he's steering toward one with Iran. Professor David Gibbs says none of the usual explanations for the turn hold up, especially for a man who kept that promise through his entire first term: "It is a fact that he did run as a peace president. He ran for president as somebody would be a man of peace. He would not start any new wars." With the midterms days away, the voters who backed that promise will be watching every move he makes next.

🇺🇸 🇮🇷 The US buildup around Iran may be a bluff... and a bluff Tehran takes seriously could start the war anyway. Joe Kent warns the bigger risk is Iran reading the ship movements and jet runs as the real thing and deciding to fire first: “That’s why, again, we’re playing with fire.” With every sign pointing to war before November 3, one bad read in Tehran is all it takes. @joekent16jan19

🇨🇳🇺🇸 China's economy was 77% the size of America's in 2021 and has shrunk to 67%... the overtake that was supposed to happen before 2020 is now penciled in for 2040 at best Chinese retail sales growth has fallen to roughly zero, household borrowing has been contracting for two years, and the banks have stopped lending to businesses and started hoarding government bonds instead. Jeffrey Snider, who runs Eurodollar University, says the China-overtakes-America story died in 2008 when the world stopped buying enough of what China's factories make, and Beijing's only exit is inventing the next industrial revolution itself: "You can't steal your way to prosperity." Jeff says the Soviets tried that for 20 years and still collapsed, and China is already halfway into Japan's lost decades, minus the banking blowup that made Japan's official. The Communist Party's whole plan is to hold the pieces together until a technology breakthrough that has to arrive by the 2030s or not at all. @JeffSnider_EDU
