🇺🇸 One theory says letting the Middle East burn would make America the new OPEC, but US refineries can't even run American oil.
The idea, floated by some around Trump, is that wrecked refineries abroad would force the world to depend on North American energy for good, and it falls apart for a simple reason:
"We don't even refine the stuff we drill here in North America."
America ships out its light, sweet shale and imports the heavy, sour crude its refineries were built for, so becoming the world's gas station means rebuilding the gas station first.

♦️ Mario highlights the flawed theory that Middle East chaos would crown the US as new OPEC, noting US refineries are built for heavy sour crude imports while exporting light sweet domestic shale, so America can’t simply step in as global supplier without massive retooling.
♦️US produces 13.3M bpd of mostly light oil yet imports ~7M bpd heavy grades for its complex refineries that handle 50%+ sour inputs; full conversion would cost $100B+ and years, per EIA and industry data, keeping short-term reliance on foreign heavy flows intact.
♦️Future worldwide: escalating conflicts will spike prices, strain supply chains, and hit import-dependent regions hardest while US shale booms modestly; stop blaming the US for everything and definitely stop believing this chaos magically fixes energy security—Europe’s green shutdowns and Russia’s buyers created the fragile mess.
