🇺🇸 America's largest prediction market platforms are defying Ohio's attempts to shut down sports betting on their websites.
Ohio regulators issued cease-and-desist letters to 10 companies, including Polymarket, Robinhood and Coinbase, ordering them to stop offering sports-related contracts by last Friday.
Most platforms continued operating after the deadline, prompting Governor Mike DeWine to accuse them of deliberately circumventing state gambling laws.
The companies argue that their prediction markets fall under federal regulation rather than state gambling laws.
The financial stakes are substantial; operating as a licensed sportsbook in Ohio can cost upwards of $1 million, with operators also subject to a 20% sports betting tax.
The dispute could have major implications for whether prediction markets can continue operating nationwide under a single federal regulatory framework.

🚨🇬🇧🇪🇺 A major Google Cloud outage is disrupting banking, payments, deliveries, and dozens of online services across Britain and parts of Europe.
Google reported elevated errors and intermittent network failures in its London-based cloud region, affecting more than 35 products.
Revolut customers have experienced severe problems accessing their accounts, including card payments and transferring money, though the company says customer funds and data remain safe.
HSBC, Lloyds Bank, Royal Mail, DPD, Rightmove, and Screwfix are among the other companies reporting service disruptions.
Google's engineers are investigating the problem, with no immediate workaround or confirmed timeline for full recovery.

🚨🇫🇷 France's major cities were largely calm overnight, after authorities imposed curfews following some of the country's worst riots in decades...
Such curfews are extremely rare in peacetime France, but they were imposed after more than half a million reportedly got involved in demonstrations that spiralled out of control across 140 cities on Saturday.
They now cover parts of Paris, Marseille, Lyon, and several other cities.
French PM Sébastien Lecornu credited the restrictions for restoring calm and warned they could be extended wherever necessary.
The government now faces another test this Saturday, with student orgs announcing fresh demonstrations over deteriorating schools and public services.
Not that that's what it's *really* about... 🙄

🚨🇺🇸🇺🇦🇷🇺 Sec. Rubio on the Ukraine War:
"One of the reasons why this war needs to end is because Ukraine's electric grid is being devastated.
One of the reasons this war needs to end is because every month 20-25,000 Russians are slaughtered as they try to advance in Ukraine.
All of these are bad things."
Some people may call this bothsidesism, but both things can be and ARE true!
Too much bloodshed across the board, and it's a GOOD THING the U.S. is able to recognize that.

🇩🇪 Chancellor Merz promises Germany is the BEST place to invest in, despite its catastrophic energy policies:
"If we agree on delivery dates, we stick to it. If you invite friends from Germany for dinner at 7, we arrive at 6:58.
We are reliable, predictable, precise, and unsurprising. We are, in short, what investors like most.
So the good thing about clichés is this: they tend to be true. So if you pick the core of this assumed Germanness, you might actually like what you get.
Yes, we do have our own challenges, but Germany's DNA proves to be rather helpful in the face of a world which is harder and harder to read and to predict."
So uhh... what are the clichés about mass unvetted migrants, if they "tend to be true"? 🤣

🚨🇺🇸🇹🇷 U.S. Amb. Tom Barrack says Washington cannot simply ELIMINATE everyone it designates as a terrorist.
He says governments face a choice when dealing with terrorists, state-sponsored terrorism, and sanctioned entities...
Try to eliminate everyone on those lists, or create a pathway that could persuade them to change course.
“That's not a very good solution."
His alternative centers on incentives:
“You're not going to convince any adversary to come to your side if you don't have a path to prosperity for them.”

🚨🇺🇸🇹🇷🇸🇦 U.S. Amb. Tom Barrack on his view of the Saudi-led war against the Houthis in Yemen:
"I think Saudi Arabia is in a very difficult position. Look, the history of Yemen, and, you know, I'm not about to teach the region who understands it.
These kinetic reactions have never worked. It doesn't work. It's probably not likely that it's going to work."

🇫🇷🇦🇪 Macron secured a deal for 200,000 tonnes of diesel per month from the UAE and Bahrain, as France struggles with soaring fuel costs and nationwide unrest.
The agreement includes approx. 100,000 tonnes monthly from each country, bringing France's total Gulf diesel supply commitments to 295,000 tonnes/month.
That includes an existing agreement for 95,000 tonnes monthly from Saudi, with the combined supplies equivalent to over 10% of France's diesel consumption.
French energy giant TotalEnergies will handle the additional shipments, aimed at easing shortages caused by disruptions to global energy markets during the U.S.-Iran war.
The supplies could help stabilize diesel availability, though its impact on pump prices will depend on global fuel markets and how quickly shipments reach France.

"The overall China-EU relationship is sound and stable.
The disagreements on trade issues can be resolved through dialogue and should not affect our overall relations."
