🚨🇬🇧🇪🇺 A major Google Cloud outage is disrupting banking, payments, deliveries, and dozens of online services across Britain and parts of Europe. Google reported elevated errors and intermittent network failures in its London-based cloud region, affecting more than 35 products. Revolut customers have experienced severe problems accessing their accounts, including card payments and transferring money, though the company says customer funds and data remain safe. HSBC, Lloyds Bank, Royal Mail, DPD, Rightmove, and Screwfix are among the other companies reporting service disruptions. 🚨🇫🇷 France's major cities were largely calm overnight, after authorities imposed curfews following some of the country's worst riots in decades... Such curfews are extremely rare in peacetime France, but they were imposed after more than half a million reportedly got involved in demonstrations that spiralled out of control across 140 cities on Saturday. They now cover parts of Paris, Marseille, Lyon, and several other cities. French PM Sébastien Lecornu credited the restrictions for restoring calm and warned they could be extended wherever necessary. The government now faces another test this Saturday, with student orgs announcing fresh demonstrations over deteriorating schools and public services. The agreement includes approx. 100,000 tonnes monthly from each country, bringing France's total Gulf diesel supply commitments to 295,000 tonnes/month. That includes an existing agreement for 95,000 tonnes monthly from Saudi, with the combined supplies equivalent to over 10% of France's diesel consumption. French energy giant TotalEnergies will handle the additional shipments, aimed at easing shortages caused by disruptions to global energy markets during the U.S.-Iran war. 🇪🇺🇺🇸 Europe is spending billions to stop relying on America, and most of it is going to... America. The U.S. supplied 58% of European NATO members' major arms imports in 2021-2025, down from 64%, according to SIPRI. Sounds like progress, right? Yeah, until you look at the actual numbers. Europe's arms imports more than TRIPLED after Russia invaded Ukraine, and U.S. deliveries to Europe jumped 217%. In other words, America's slice of the pie got a little smaller, but the pie got a LOT bigger. And we're not talking about spare parts here. 12 European countries have 466 F-35s on order or preselected, and Europe still relies heavily on the U.S. for long-range air defense. The Iran war and Russia's missile barrages on Ukraine have drained global interceptor supplies, and Washington just told Europe not to count on it to replenish them. "Our industrial capacity is largely going to be used to provide those requirements for the U.S. military," U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said, with Washington possibly spending up to $1.5 trillion on defense this year. Europe's own fixes are YEARS away. Rheinmetall plans to build Patriot interceptors in Germany, but nothing has rolled off the line yet. Meanwhile, the EU's defense agency says most of Europe's new missile defense capacity is short-range, leaving major gaps in long-range and ballistic missile defense. Strategic autonomy sounds great at summits. But until Europe can produce enough of its own advanced weapons to meet demand, that autonomy is looking like one very expensive illusion. And the situation could get considerably worse. Rice futures have reportedly risen around 70% in 2026, while wheat and sugar are up approximately 40%. Fertilizer shortages could also reduce agricultural yields, pushing another wave of food inflation into 2027. Meanwhile, ideological divisions surrounding global wars and declining trust in political institutions are creating an unusually volatile social environment. He's charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder over the 1996 shootdown of 2 unarmed Brothers to the Rescue planes, which killed 4 men from Florida. Prosecutors say Castro, then Cuba's defense minister, gave a standing order to shoot the planes down. Cuban MiGs hit them over international waters, with no warning. The court ordered no bond, and a federal indictment is already on the books. ARTEX was built in China to test cyberdefenses. Turns out it’s pretty good at breaking them too, with researchers tying it to many of the recent attacks in Japan, all run from one server setup aimed almost entirely at Japanese targets. Around 20 companies got hit and 8 have already owned up to data leaks, with names like Daiwa Securities and SoftBank caught in the wider wave. The IDF and Shin Bet say the sites held dozens of weapons, including RPGs, launchers, rockets and Kalashnikovs, all used by Hamas’ military wing.
