🇧🇷 HOW did Lula manage to gain 10M votes between rounds in Brazil's presidential election, compared with just 4M for Flávio Bolsonaro? In the first round, ~9.5M votes went to other candidates, while changes in turnout, blank ballots, and invalid votes added another ~5M to the calculation. That leaves a pool of ~14M votes. Flávio gained 4M, rising from 56M to ~60M. Lula gained 10M, jumping from 54M to 64.1M. That works out to 71% of the net gains for Lula and just 29% for Flávio. What makes this particularly striking is the claim that ~10M of those 14M votes came from voters who had backed eliminated candidates with more right-wing political platforms. So how did Lula end up gaining so much more ground in just 3 weeks? The figures don't prove wrongdoing or show exactly how individuals voted, but the dramatic shift has raised serious questions about the results. 🇷🇺🇺🇦 Russia says it has foiled a Ukrainian plot to launch drones from inside Russian territory against Moscow's missile defense system and a critical electricity facility. Russia's FSB security service arrested two men accused of preparing the attacks under instructions from Ukraine's SBU intelligence agency. According to the FSB, the suspects collected explosive-laden first-person-view (FPV) drones from two Russian regions before transporting them to the Moscow area. The drones were reportedly configured locally and intended to be controlled remotely by operators in Ukraine. Russian authorities claim one suspect was recruited by an SBU officer and promised money to carry out the operation, before enlisting an acquaintance. The alleged plot highlights a potentially serious vulnerability for Moscow: drones launched close to strategic defenses, bypassing the long-distance approach that Russian air defenses are designed to intercept.
