But Libya fractured, billions linked to the Gaddafi family were frozen, and the house became trapped in international legal battles. One of the strangest twists came when General Dynamics UK pursued Libya over unpaid contracts and a British court allowed the mansion to be used as collateral in a £16 million claim.
