🚨🇺🇲 BREAKING:
A massive fire and AMMONIA LEAK forces evacuations on Oregon’s Newport Bayfront.
Firefighters rushed to Pacific Seafood’s processing plant this AM as thick, acrid smoke and a potential ammonia hazard threatened nearby homes and businesses.
Ammonia is highly toxic, corrosive, and reacts aggressively with moisture to destroy human tissue. Evacuations were ordered around the facility.
No injuries had been reported in the initial account. The cause of the fire remains unclear.
It’s not safe to breathe the air; evacuate if advised!!

@MarioNawfal Hoping everyone in Newport stays safe. Ammonia in that smoke is nasty stuff toxic and corrosive, which is why the one mile evacuation and ‘stay indoors or mask up’ guidance makes sense. Glad no injuries reported so far. Respect to the crews working that fire.
