Taiwan's Coast Guard says China is increasingly combining coast guard ships, research vessels, and state-backed maritime militia boats in coordinated operations around the island. In August, one suspected Chinese militia vessel came within roughly 2.7 nautical miles of Taiwan's restricted waters off its strategically important east coast, a key route for supplies.
