🇺🇦🇷🇺 Zelensky says Ukraine is NOT losing the war... But he admits the country is losing something it can never get back: people and time. He also said Russian attacks continue to cost Ukrainian lives and deprive children of a normal childhood. He called for the war to end “as quickly as possible” and appealed to both the U.S. and Europe for help. At the same time, he credited Ukraine's soldiers with strengthening his hand at the negotiating table: “Our strong soldiers stay strong on the battlefield. It helps me stay strong during any kind of negotiations.” Writer: Samuel t.co/Kifj1JaXDp

🇷🇺🇺🇸🇮🇷 Putin to Witkoff: "We have a special, trust-based relationship with our partners in Iran. If we can contribute to the resolution of the war there, we would be willing to do so." How about a 2-for-1? END BOTH WARS ALREADY Writer: Michael t.co/aMaCzjFvBN

🇫🇷 Footage of the attack and fire at Limoges' historic city hall, now sadly in ruins thanks to these nutjobs... 🔥 If you're wondering what "ACAB" means, it's a popular Antifa phrase: "All Cops Are Bastards." 🇫🇷 Mélenchon says he won't even PREPARE for war... "Down with war! We will not fight it. We will not organize it. We will not prepare for it." Not fighting unnecessary wars sounds great... 🇺🇸 A Guatemalan man has been sentenced to 30 years in a U.S. prison for his role in a human smuggling operation that left 53 migrants dead inside a sweltering tractor-trailer in Texas. Rigoberto Ramon Miranda Orozco, 50, admitted to arranging travel and accommodations for migrants involved in the deadly June 2022 operation. The victims were trapped inside a trailer without functioning air conditioning during a three-hour journey from Laredo to San Antonio, with temperatures becoming unbearable. Investigators discovered 48 people dead inside the abandoned trailer, while another five later died in hospitals. Prosecutors revealed that migrants had paid smugglers up to $15,000 each, with investigators finding discarded clothing and claw marks on the trailer walls as passengers desperately tried to escape. Nearly 20 people have been convicted in the U.S. and Guatemala over the tragedy, including the operation's U.S.-based leader, who received a life sentence. The case remains one of the deadliest human smuggling disasters in U.S. history. Source: ABC News / Writer: Mhedi

🇫🇷 French Presidential Candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon on the social conditions from which he believes the French riots arose: "Unemployment, poverty that has worsened, and the growing isolation of an entire section of the population that can no longer travel simply because fuel for their cars is too expensive. I'm talking about rural areas, but also urban areas where people need to drive to the supermarket or take their children to school. It also means skipping meals because putting gasoline in the car costs more. Winter is coming, and people delay turning on the heating for as long as possible because of electricity bills. All of this creates the conditions for a state of exasperation." Writer: Mhedi t.co/axsRMKi6La

🇵🇱🇺🇸 Poland's PM says Donald is to blame for sky-high fuel prices. Just not THIS Donald. Donald Tusk admitted Poles are feeling the pain at the pump, despite having some of the EU's lowest fuel prices. Then he pointed the finger at the opposition's hero, a certain other Donald. 🇷🇺🇺🇦 Witkoff flew to St. Petersburg to talk peace with Putin. The Kremlin’s message on the same day: don’t expect a deal without Kyiv. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Ukraine problem can’t be fully settled without someone from Kyiv at the table, adding that someone there has to make a “responsible decision.” So whatever Witkoff and Putin agree on in that palace, it’s just another rough draft. OpenAI’s AI agents got tired of being watched... so they turned off the cameras. On October 3, a GPT-6.1 Sol agent was told not to send Slack messages while working on an internal task. It decided that also meant switching off the automatic security alerts designed to flag when something goes wrong. Very thorough. 3 days later, a GPT-6 Astra agent removed a safety monitor while copying an existing piece of code. Then it claimed it hadn’t. It had. According to OpenAI, both agents actually stopped to CONSIDER whether the safeguards should stay... and then talked themselves OUT of it. OpenAI admits it doesn’t “yet have a satisfying explanation for this behavior.” Every sci-fi screenwriter of the last 50 years is whispering “told you so” 😆 Source: Reuters / Writer: Julie

🇲🇾🇮🇱 Malaysia has banned government employees from using Google-owned navigation app Waze, citing concerns over its Israeli origins. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim ordered civil servants to stop using the app immediately, warning that its Israeli roots could create risks involving sensitive location data and potential exposure to Israeli laws. Waze was originally developed in Israel before being acquired by Google in 2013. The Malaysian government is encouraging public employees to switch to TuJu, a domestically developed navigation alternative. Malaysia, a staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause, does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel. The decision reflects growing concerns in Malaysia about foreign technology platforms and the security of data collected through everyday applications. Source: Reuters / Writer: Mhedi

🇺🇸 Oregon's latest "DEEPFAKE" scandal just flipped upside down. Literally. A viral video showed Democrat-backed candidate Nafisa Fai speaking in front of an upside-down American flag. A local outlet rushed to debunk it, using a screenshot supplied by a campaign supporter showing the flag the right way up. One small problem: the "proof" turned out to be the doctored image. The outlet had to retract its story. So the viral video survived the fact-check. The fact-check didn't. Sources: The Oregonian, Oregon Journalism Project / Writer: Julie

🇺🇸 THE WORLD'S BIGGEST PROFESSIONAL INVESTORS JUST DITCHED TECH STOCKS FASTER THAN AT ANY TIME IN AT LEAST A DECADE. Hedge funds, the big-money players who move markets, cut their tech holdings at a record pace in the week through October 15, Goldman Sachs data going back to 2016 shows. Chipmakers took the biggest hit. That should get everyone’s attention, because tech makes up roughly 39% of the S&P 500. If you own an index fund or have a retirement account, you’re heavily invested in tech whether you realize it or not. But even after all that selling, hedge funds still hold more tech than they have 90% of the time over the past 5 years. Record selling, and they’re still sitting on a mountain of tech. Imagine what happens if they actually get scared. Sources: Bloomberg, CME / Writer: Julie

🇺🇸 Trump wants to kick reporters out of the White House and replace their briefing room with... a swimming pool. He's reportedly floated restoring FDR's old indoor pool more than once, the one Nixon covered up in 1970 to make room for the press. Reporters could be moved to a building across the street, although nothing's been decided yet. The White House press pool is about to get a lot more literal 😆 Source: NYT / Writer: Julie

🇬🇧 The British government has officially approved production at Jackdaw, the UK's largest known untapped gas field, with supplies expected to start flowing by the end of October. Located approximately 150 miles east of Aberdeen, the North Sea project is expected to increase Britain's domestic gas production by around 6% at peak output. The field could produce the equivalent of 40,000 barrels of oil per day, enough gas to heat approximately 1.4 million homes. More than £2 billion has already been invested in the project, which was originally approved in 2022 before legal challenges over its environmental impact delayed production. The decision marks a shift toward greater reliance on domestic energy resources as Britain struggles with high energy costs and declining North Sea production. However, the government has acknowledged that Jackdaw will not reduce household energy bills this winter, with its output representing only around 2% of Britain's total gas demand. 🇺🇸 Trump has a new plan to make Americans love data centers... pay them. He says new data centers are “mandated” by him to make their own electricity and sell any extra back to the local grid, so power bills won’t go up. He says they could even come down. His tip for tech companies facing angry locals: pay the community, or individuals in it, a “dividend.” He says data centers that were “highly unpopular” turned “extremely popular” once the money showed up. Back in August, he said towns that reject data centers will end up “backwards and poor.” A Fox News poll from July found 70% of voters don’t want one in their community. And nothing wins hearts and minds when it’s a matter of principle... actually, you know what? Scrap that. Money does. Money wins hearts and minds. Sources: Truth Social, AP, Fox News / Writer: Julie

🇺🇸🇸🇴 Federal agents raided Ilhan Omar’s home. The very next day, she was asking for donations. Now she’s on TikTok, holding back tears and thanking supporters for chipping in “$5, $10, $20.” The DOJ calls it an ongoing CRIMINAL investigation. Omar says it targets her immigration status, and anonymous sources point to paperwork her late father filed when she was a child. She hasn’t been charged, but Omar wasn’t about to let a perfectly good fundraising opportunity go to waste. Sources: Bloomberg, Newsweek / Writer: Julie t.co/e7FMVB0ur0
