🇺🇸🇮🇷 Iran's war with America didn't begin in February. It began in 1979.
I spoke with Clifford May, founder of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, about whether the Middle East is heading toward another major escalation.
May believes Washington has underestimated Iran's ability to recover from American and Israeli strikes.
Missile launchers are being rebuilt, commercial ships are still being attacked near Hormuz, and Tehran appears unwilling to make the nuclear concessions Washington wants.
But May rejects the argument that the U.S. should never have attacked.
He sees Iran as part of a larger alignment with Russia, China and North Korea, all seeking to weaken American power.
And he believes waiting another four or five years could have made confronting Tehran considerably more dangerous.
The conversation became particularly interesting when I challenged him on Israel's conduct in Gaza and Lebanon, questioning whether military operations were creating the next generation of extremists.
May defended Israel's military response, while Nawfal argued that the destruction risks perpetuating the very conflict Israel wants to end.
The disagreement comes down to a difficult question: whether more military force can finally end this conflict, or whether it is making the next war inevitable.
