But the central risk is whether everyone else would cooperate with his exit strategy. Iranian state television has reported that Washington sought permission for a symbolic strike without retaliation. That claim remains unverified, but Tehran's reported rejection raises the possibility that Iran would not simply absorb another American attack and move on. Then there is Israel. Israeli strikes against Iranian infrastructure could turn a limited U.S. operation into another prolonged conflict, regardless of Trump's intentions.
