🇯🇵🇨🇳 Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi says she intends to visit China next month for the APEC leaders' summit, provided parliament approves her attendance.
The November 18–19 summit in Shenzhen could provide an opportunity for Takaichi to meet Xi as relations between Tokyo and Beijing remain strained.
Tensions escalated nearly a year ago after Takaichi suggested that a Chinese attack on Taiwan could justify Japanese military intervention, triggering a sharp backlash from Beijing.
For the time being, it remains unclear whether Xi would agree to meet her during the summit.
The announcement comes during a difficult week domestically for Takaichi, following the resignation of Agriculture Minister Kazuo Yana over allegations of electoral misconduct.
