Russia wins, Washington pulls back, and Europe stands alone across the line from a very angry neighbor, which is close to how Germany's former armed forces chief described the endgame three years ago.
Glenn Diesen, a professor in Norway, says the whole European model ran on cheap Russian energy, Russian markets and American backing, and all three are gone at once:
"The Europeans don't really have a role in this new world."
Weapons factories won't replace an economy, so the leaders polling near 10% will keep selling confrontation, and the ones who replace them will go to Moscow for a deal, because a Europe that cuts out its largest country was never going to hold.
