Peter Kuznick: the most dangerous shift in nuclear strategy is that some planners no longer see nuclear war as something that must never happen.
They think it can be won.
Kuznick points to a school of U.S. strategists who believe advances in AI, sonar and surveillance could make a successful preemptive strike against Russian and Chinese nuclear forces possible.
And he says similar escalation pressures now exist across several theaters, from Ukraine to Taiwan.
The problem is what happens after the first “limited” nuclear strike.
According to Kuznick, Pentagon war games repeatedly fail to contain it.
“They never can stop it.”
The scenario starts tactical.
It ends with full-scale nuclear war.
