🇧🇷 Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro:
“Those who think I’m a radical on public security haven’t seen ANYTHING yet.
I’m already discussing ideas... because it seems to me that El Salvador doesn’t go far enough.”
Brazil definitely has its problems with crime, and it's refreshing to hear that he will address that.
I remember stories from friends who visited parts of Brazil and were told not to leave the hotel, just in case...

When a candidate in a country of 200+ million says El Salvador "doesn't go far enough," the model has gone mainstream. El Salvador went from murder capital of the world to the safest country in the hemisphere by jailing 85,000 gang members, 99% of whom had priors. Critics abroad call it backsliding. But plenty of established democracies are failing their own citizens on crime. I asked two of Bukele's ministers about the criticism. Their answer: worry about your own streets first.
