🇺🇸 A federal judge exploded at Trump’s lawyers after 430 trees were cut down at a D.C. golf course. Trump wants to turn the historic public course into a championship course like his own in Scotland and Ireland. The problem is the government only told the court late on a Friday before a holiday weekend, and by Monday the trees were already gone. That’s what set the judge off, telling the lawyers they’d “lost credibility.” And when they admitted they’d known about it for days, she asked if they had “email or a cell phone.” The administration says it’s just following a 2019 Park Service plan, but whatever the court decides now, those trees aren’t growing back. Restoring the golf course to its original design is the execution of a Dept of the Interior project designed by landscape historians from University of Pennsylvania during the Obama administration, but lacking funding until now. t.co/CPtQFZ0j2v The study includes a detailed history of land management on the island over time. (I read it.) This includes documented design intentions by the original course designer, Walter Travis. Among those were creating vistas from the course that provide views of specific DC buildings and monuments. Since that time, trees have grown taller and later plantings interfered with those views and the original vegetation layouts. The trees being removed have been identified by arborists and park personnel - not Trump, LOL! - because of a combination of their poor health, the presence of invasive species, and their location vs the historic plan restoration. There are 3800 trees in the island area in and around the golf course. Removing these ~500 trees did not denude the area. I'm not a lawyer, so have no opinion on the legal aspects of the discussion.

And since we post 250-300 posts per day (a post every 6 minutes), many posts get low engagement, and also it takes time for engagement to be picked up due to the volume. 🇺🇸 Pennsylvania has lost a 6th person to measles in less than 2 months. This time it was a 39-year-old woman who hadn’t been vaccinated. She already had health problems, and doctors think the measles likely pushed her heart over the edge. It’s the state’s worst outbreak in 30 years, with 1,136 confirmed cases, and the people who’ve died include 2 babies and an 18-year-old. And doctors fear it’s much bigger than it looks. Measles usually kills 1 or 2 people out of every 1,000 it infects, so 6 deaths suggests closer to 6,000 people have caught it. A Florida intensive care nurse has been arrested after a patient’s family member watched her SIPHON fentanyl from a critically ill patient’s IV and pocket the syringe. Leslie Ann Pope, 54, allegedly returned the next night and tried again before being stopped. Police say video shows her handling the protective caps on the equipment. She faces felony charges for grand theft of a controlled substance, possession without a prescription, and fraudulently obtaining the drug. The hospital says she no longer works there. The Boeing 737 returned to Ethiopia, changed crew, then completed the flight. Indonesia has no diplomatic ties with Israel, and its citizens require special entry permits. TMZ reports that a county official confirmed his death and that authorities are investigating it as a suspected suicide.
