🇸🇦 Saudi plans to expand its oil pipeline capacity to 10M barrels/day within the next 2-3 years, reducing its dependence on the Strait of Hormuz.
Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman announced plans to upgrade the East-West pipeline and convert an existing gas pipeline to carry crude oil.
The gas pipeline could transport an additional 1.2M barrels/day within 8 weeks, potentially rising to 3M with further investment.
The announcement comes as Houthi strikes have been ravaging Saudi aviation infrastructure...
The Houthis have also targeted Saudi oil infrastructure, and a September drone strike (from Iraqi territory) temporarily disrupted the East-West pipeline itself.
With Hormuz disrupted by the Iran war, Saudi is racing to secure alternative export routes as its energy infrastructure faces mounting threats.
