🇺🇸🇵🇦 The U.S. military has been making some pretty big deliveries to earthquake-hit Panama. After Friday's 7.7 quake damaged roads and bridges, getting supplies to some communities hasn't been easy. So U.S. Chinook helicopters have been flying in with water, food, and medical tents, working alongside Panamanian troops. And they've moved quite a lot already. More than 54,000 cases of water and 50,000 cans of food. The helicopters land wherever there's room, troops unload everything by hand, and then they're off to get the next load. Meta's chief AI officer Alexandr Wang says @ElonMusk taught him something that helped shape Meta's AI strategy You don't necessarily need thousands of engineers to move fast. You need a small group of exceptionally talented people, very little hierarchy, and the freedom to get things done. Wang says he brought that idea to Mark Zuckerberg, who embraced it as a central part of their approach to AI. Meta, a company with enormous resources, is now deliberately borrowing from the way Elon builds small, highly technical teams. At some point, adding more people stops making you faster. And in AI, where the technology can change dramatically in a matter of months, the speed of a decision can matter as much as the resources behind it. Source: @davidsenra / Writer: Oliver

🇺🇸🇮🇷 The U.S. could strike Iran again, but what comes after? We had an interesting conversation with former CIA operations officer Charles Finfrock, who thinks Washington may be preparing another major round of strikes against Iran. And unlike some of my other guests, Charles believes a concentrated 72-hour campaign could do serious damage, especially if coordinated with Israel. He wants the U.S. to target Iran's leadership, military command structure, missile capabilities and the security forces keeping the regime in power. But our disagreement really began when we talked about what happens afterward. Charles believes removing the regime could give Iranians a chance to determine their own future. Yet he also acknowledged that Iran could end up looking like Libya, with prolonged instability and no functioning democracy emerging anytime soon. That admission stuck. We've already seen what happened in Iraq and Libya. Removing a government is one thing. Building something better is quite another. Charles argues that Iran's nuclear ambitions make the risk worth confronting. But Brandon worries that another war could leave us with a fractured country, dangerous weapons in uncertain hands and yet another American commitment we can't easily escape. And perhaps the most revealing part of our conversation was that neither of us could confidently describe what a stable postwar Iran would actually look like. @WeTheBrandon @finfrockcharles

🇵🇦 Panama is still shaking after a powerful 7.7 earthquake hit on Friday. More than 200 aftershocks have followed, though they’re getting weaker. Nearly 900 homes and at least 14 bridges were damaged, and 27 people were hurt. The government has declared a national emergency, and the U.S. is sending $5 million and a rescue team. The good news is that nobody has died so far, and the Panama Canal, one of the world’s busiest shipping routes, is still running as normal. For a quake that powerful, the fact that no lives have been lost so far is a huge relief. Source: Reuters / Writer: Daniyal

🇺🇸🇮🇷 Larry Johnson: The U.S. is preparing for another war, but may not be ready to fight it Something strange is happening in the skies over the Middle East. U.S. refueling aircraft are reportedly moving in numbers reminiscent of the buildup before the last war with Iran. Israeli fighter jets have also reportedly been active near Syrian and Iraqi airspace. So we asked former CIA analyst Larry Johnson whether we're watching the preparations for another attack. His answer surprised us. Johnson thinks renewed strikes are entirely possible, but says the U.S. military isn't showing the level of command mobilization he'd expect before a sustained campaign. And he sees a much bigger problem: America may no longer have the weapons stockpiles to fight the kind of war its leaders are contemplating. Iran, meanwhile, has had months to rebuild its defenses, expand its underground missile capabilities and prepare for another confrontation. Johnson believes even a short American bombing campaign could accomplish very little while inviting a far more damaging Iranian response. That's what's worrying about this buildup. Washington might still have the ability to start another war with Iran. But starting one and controlling what happens afterward are two very different things. @WeTheBrandon @NewSonof

Edward Coristine says Americans currently have to navigate some 29,000 government websites just to find what they need. 🇺🇸🇮🇷 The U.S. may be trying to provoke Iran into striking first. I found something particularly troubling in my conversation with Alan Eyre, former U.S. diplomat who helped negotiate the Iran nuclear deal. He believes another round of American strikes against Iran is highly likely. But what caught my attention was his theory about how it might begin. With additional U.S. military assets moving into the region and reports of Israeli aircraft operating near Iraqi airspace, Eyre wonders whether Washington is deliberately testing Tehran's nerves. Iran has already been caught off guard twice. Its leadership has made clear it doesn't intend to let that happen again. And that creates a dangerous possibility. What if the military buildup is partly designed to make Iran believe an attack is imminent, pushing Tehran to strike first? Washington could then present its own offensive as retaliation rather than a decision to restart the war. Eyre isn't claiming to know that's the plan. But he sees a serious risk of another conflict, with Israel pursuing regime change and Washington's ultimate objective still unclear. The unsettling part is how easily preparations meant to intimidate an adversary could become the very thing that triggers the next war. @AlanEyre1
