🇺🇸 Steve Hanke: The dollar isn't dying, but Washington is making it vulnerable I've been hearing a lot about the end of the dollar lately, so I was interested to hear Steve Hanke push back against that argument. His answer was surprisingly emphatic. The dollar remains extraordinarily strong, and Hanke believes America's AI investment boom is actually helping keep it that way. Foreign investors want exposure to American technology companies. To buy those assets, they need dollars. And with roughly 60–65% of global stock market capitalization concentrated in the United States, replacing the dollar is much harder than the headlines suggest. But Hanke isn't dismissing the risks. He thinks Washington is undermining its own currency through sanctions, tariffs and uncontrolled government spending. China is buying gold and building alternative financial systems, but its capital controls make the yuan a difficult replacement. The euro isn't making much progress either. Hanke's point is that a currency doesn't lose its global dominance simply because its government makes mistakes. It needs a credible challenger. Ukraine has shown just how dangerous cheap drones can become, even against heavily defended targets. The agency says it's preparing for drone attacks and developing its own drone capabilities, drawing directly from what has been happening on the battlefield. Now a small drone can approach from above, potentially carrying explosives, and give security teams only seconds to react. The Secret Service is having to rethink what a secure perimeter even means. That would leave Saudi-backed forces holding only a narrow stretch of mountainous territory around Jabal Al-Arous and Jabal Al-Sabr south of the city. And those mountains matter. Decart is a young Israeli company that makes AI that can create and edit video live, as it happens, with potential uses in gaming, online shopping and training robots. 🇸🇦🇺🇸 The damage to Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure could be far worse than people realize. I've been trying to understand just how much oil Saudi Arabia could be losing as its energy facilities come under attack. Chris Martenson pointed me toward something that deserves far more attention than the fires themselves. Using NASA satellite fire data, he identified an unusually intense blaze at the Khurais oil processing facility, with readings exceeding 550 megawatts of fire radiative power. The concern isn't simply that a facility is burning. Khurais processes oil from a field producing roughly 1.8 million barrels a day. It also handles water injection needed to maintain pressure underground. If those systems are seriously damaged, Saudi Arabia can't necessarily redirect that production somewhere else. And nobody yet knows how long repairs could take. Martenson also raised another problem: the world isn't just losing crude oil. It's losing access to refined products like diesel and jet fuel, while damaged tankers and slower ship-to-ship transfers are making deliveries harder. That's why he's so worried about another American escalation against Iran. A prolonged shutdown of critical Gulf energy infrastructure could turn an already severe supply disruption into something much harder to reverse.
