🇺🇸🇨🇳 The B-52 first flew in 1952, and the Navy now wants it firing a missile that can find an enemy warship on its own.
Lockheed Martin is set to wire the stealthy LRASM onto the bomber, which means every heavy bomber in the Air Force will be able to hunt ships.
The missile skims in hard to detect, locks on with an infrared seeker that never broadcasts radar, and can team up with other missiles mid-flight to overwhelm a target’s defenses.
All of it is aimed at China’s growing fleet, where one B-52 hanging back hundreds of miles could unload a whole salvo at a carrier group before anyone sees it coming.
The plan keeps the B-52 flying until at least 2050, when its design will be pushing 100, and somewhere a 1952 Boeing engineer is feeling very smug😅
