‘ME TOO’ LEADER ATTACKS MEDIA OVER RUSSELL BRAND
You’d expect anyone from the ‘Me Too’ movement to lead the attacks against Brand, but instead, Rose McGowan rightly questioned the media’s approach to the ALLEGATIONS: "Why now? What is the true narrative they are pushing?"
"This is a concerted effort to bend journalistic rules that have always been in place, such as having to be on the record with who you are and what your name is in order to accuse. I didn't make these rules. These are the rules. They were the rules. So, there is something very strange going on."
She questions why high-level journalistic outlets are now allowing anonymous accusations to be published, tarnishing someone’s reputation.
MY THOUGHTS
1. RESPECT: Instead of taking advantage of the situation to advance her agenda, Rose stood by her values.
2. This proves my points from the beginning: The Russell Brand allegations are less about feminism, and more about the media’s abuse of their powers.
3. SHE IS RIGHT: For anonymous allegations to be used as FACT, and to destroy one’s entire reputation and business, is not journalism
McGowan has been at the forefront of the fight against sexual harassment and assault, her concerns carry significant weight.
Her questioning of the media's current practices serves as a reminder that no matter what the story is, the foundational principles of journalism should not be compromised.
Should these journalists be held accountable?
