The Ten Commandments are now mandated to be displayed prominently in all public schools in Texas after the passage of Senate Bill 1515 on Thursday.
The Texas Senate recently approved Senate Bill 1515, which requires every public elementary or secondary school to prominently display a durable poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments in each classroom. The poster or copy must be easily legible to individuals with average vision from any part of the classroom.
In addition, the Texas Senate has also passed a bill that mandates schools to allocate time for prayer.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick commented, "Bringing the Ten Commandments and prayer back to our public schools will enable our students to become better Texans."
Critics of the bill argue that it violates the principle of separation of church and state, which is foundational to the United States. They view this decision by the Texas Senate as an infringement on individual rights by the state.
