#BREAKING: "Either the Deep State destroys America, or we destroy the Deep State" - Trump at today's rally The 'deep state' narrative is one heavily used by Trump to rally voters. What is the deep state? Does it exist or is it a political tactic to rally voters? "There's no deep state... The fact that the president and the secretary [of state] can't get their act together on foreign policy is not the deep state. That's just their own incompetence." - Marco Rubio "There is a deep state in this country, and it is a threat to our democracy." - Rand Paul "The idea that there is a deep state conspiracy against President Trump is laughable. It's ridiculous." - David Gergen "The deep state is real and it's dangerous. It's a group of unelected bureaucrats who think they know better than the people." - Tucker Carlson "The notion of a deep state, crouching behind every corner, is a conspiracy theory." - Max Boot "The deep state is a group of unelected bureaucrats who are doing everything they can to undermine President Trump's agenda and thwart the will of the American people." - Jim Jordan How would you define the deep state?
